Procedure: Lumbar Fusion & Decompression

What was your initial medical issue?

I had advanced spinal arthritis that began several years ago. It caused pain in my mid-low back, as well as numbness in my foot – which made it difficult to walk.

What did these issues prevent you from doing?

It made everything more difficult. I had trouble walking, getting up from chairs, and even standing without a cane. One day I fell and broke my arm in two places – that’s when I knew I needed to do something about my problem.

What made you decide to do something about your problem?

It was a build up of pain and frustration over time, as well as the advice of my neurologist that prompted me to seek the help of a spine surgeon.

My previous symptoms were immediately gone after surgery. Before the procedure I couldn’t stand for long without the help of my cane. Now I can stand for an hour without even using a cane!

Once you have a diagnosis, don’t delay. It’s not worth putting up with the pain any longer than you need to.
