Sandra

Procedure: Anterior / Posterior Lumbar Fusion

What was your initial medical issue?

I’ve had back issues since 1982. I just lived with them until 2012 when I seriously injured my spine. I was putting up Christmas decorations when something snapped in my back. I went into the doctor and had an MRI taken. The test confirmed that I had a compression fracture in my spine.

What did this issue prevent you doing?

The Christmas after the injury was the worst I can remember. I was in great pain and had to take muscle relaxers just to cope. I’ve never felt such intense pain – not even in childbirth. Most of all I felt bad for my family who had to see and care for me in that condition.

What made you decide to do something about your problem?

I was in such pain and not living my life like I wanted to. I was forced to postpone my surgery for about 8 months after my injury because of a number of family issues. Eventually it got to the point where I couldn’t cope anymore. So I went in for surgery and immediately felt good about the decision.

Why did you choose Dr. Sinicropi?

I was referred to Dr. Sinicropi from my primary care physicians. He came highly recommended.

What treatment/procedure did you have done?

I had an Anterior / Posterior Lumbar fusion.

How did you feel after treatment?

Immediately after the procedure I felt a great sense of peace and relief. The incisions themselves didn’t give me any pain at all, but I had nerve damage that continued to give me pain in my legs. After months of physical therapy I feel less pain than I’ve felt in years.

What advice would you give other patients in a similar situation to you?

Take ownership of your surgery. The surgeon takes the first step, but you’re responsible for what comes next. It’s hard work to get through the pain at times, but in the end it’s worth it.

Stefano, Jake, and Matt were all so wonderful before, during, and after my procedure. I have the utmost respect for all of them and would recommend their services to anyone with back pain.
