severe back painFor some people, going to the doctor is a chore. So much so that they would rather deal with their pain than visit the doctor’s office. That being said there are certain back pains that are serious enough to warrant an immediate trip to the doctor. Regardless of how tough you are these symptoms can indicate that something is seriously wrong and needs to be treated for the sake of your own health. Don’t just deal with your pain, see a doctor and get back on the path to a pain free life.

Bladder & Bowel Issues

Any loss of bladder or bowel control should be taken very seriously, especially if the issues occur suddenly. This can be a sign of nerve compression or damage in the spinal cord. Other symptoms can include a weakness, or loss of sensation below the waist. Paralysis is a possible consequence if these signs are ignored.

Sudden Weight Loss

Losing weight suddenly and rapidly (5 pounds or more per week) can be indicative of a spinal tumor. If the weight loss or appetite reduction is paired with back pain of any sort this can further confirm the diagnosis.

Severe Pain & Fever

Sudden and intense pain in the back coupled with a fever may indicate a serious infection of some kind. Additionally, severe pain in the low back or abdomen that does not go away after a few days to a week should be examined immediately before permanent damage is done.

Visiting the doctor may seem like a hassle, but it may help identify a serious underlying condition and ultimately save your life. Pain is your body telling you that something is wrong. Listen to your body – it has your best interests at heart.
